Good and Evil? Look at your Choices

“Where is Good?” In our reasoned choices. Where is Evil? In our reasoned choices. Where is that which is neither Good nor Evil? in the things outside of our reasoned choice.” – Epictetus, Discourses, 2.16.1

What else is there but our own actions and choices in life? It is all we have control over, all else can simply be. And yet this is the hardest thing to recognize. Our innate fear of making the wrong choice in the eyes of others takes away our power. But in the strong minded, it should have no effect as it is in our will to make the choice, to take the responsibility and enjoy the rewards.

Be they good or bad, enjoy them because you’ve earned them.

This passage was borrowed from Ryan Holiday’s ‘The Daily Stoic’, which I have been reading as a primer to my morning routine. It was used to unlock some thoughts and to encourage insight in the form of the written word.
